Breaking through for a maiden Group 1 victory last time out, Driefontein is currently outright $7 favourite in betting markets to claim the 2014 The Goodwood, ahead of Miracles Of Life ($7.50) and Sistine Demon ($9).

Can Driefontein continue her sensational run of form in the 2014 The Goodwood, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Miracles Of Life ($7.50)

A standout performer in her maiden race preparation throughout the 2013 autumn, Miracles Of Life claimed a perfect record of four wins from as many starts, including the major Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m). continuing to build in form and class through the 2013 spring, the Not A Single Doubt filly has returned to racing in typically good form this season, finishing an unlucky second in both the Listed Manihi Classic (1050m) and Listed Redelva Open (1050m) before returning to the winner’s circle with a comfortable two length victory in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) last time out. Allocated the ideal barrier 2, jockey Dean Yendall has been confirmed to retain the ride this weekend and offers punters exceptional value for money at current odds.

2nd

Platelet ($8)

Champion of the 2013 edition of The Goodwood, Platelet is once again a leading chance to take out South Australia’s headline race, but will have to overcome the wide and awkward barrier 17 if to successfully defend her title this weekend. Claiming nine win and 12 places from 26 competitive starts to date, the Strategic mare has returned to racing in typically strong form this season; comfortably claiming the 55 Second Handicap (955m) first-up before finishing an unlucky second in both the Group 3 Irwin Stakes (1100m) and Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) most recently. Confirmed to be partnered by in-form local jockey Brad Rawiller, Platelet arguably offers punters the best value for money to reclaim The Goodwood crown at current $8 odds.

3rd

Bel Sprinter ($21)

While yet to hit peak condition in 2014, Bel Sprinter’s incredible racing record makes his unbelievable $21 odds for success in this weekend’s The Goodwood almost too hard to refuse. A standout performer of the 2013 autumn, the Bel Esprit gelding claimed the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) first-up and finished third behind equine superstar Black Caviar in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) before placing an unlucky second behind Lucky Nine in the Group 1 Krisflyer International Sprint 2013 (1200m) abroad in Singapore. Allocated the ideal inside barrier, Bel Sprinter is a great chance of returning to form and claiming The Goodwood crown, having been confirmed to be partnered by talented jockey Craig Newitt.
