O’Brien Eyeing 2015 The Goodwood with Prince Harada

May 5th, 2015

Trainer Danny O’Brien has been thrilled with the condition of Prince Harada this time in and is hopeful the classy sprinter will sneak into the final field for the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 16th.

Prince Harada has posted three race wins and a further two minors through his ten career starts so far; returning this time for success in TheShark.com.au BM90 (1100m) before placing a credible fourth in the W.Malone/Auckland R.C. BM90 (1200m) most recently on April 25th.

Likely to line up against the likes of Hucklebuck in The Goodwood, O’Brien told Racing Victoria he is confident the Haradasun gelding will lay a great account for himself should he be accepted into the final field.

“We’re going to nominate him for The Goodwood but he’s probably very unlikely to even get a run,” O’Brien said.

“If we don’t get into the Goodwood he’ll probably just go to another race at Flemington and we’ll try and get his rating up because we’ve still got next season and the season after that.

“We drew the wrong side the other day and unfortunately he was in an awkward spot on a day where you really had to be hard against the outside rail.

“He won on the slow as a two-year-old but Craig Williams did say on the genuinely heavy track that he wasn’t as effective.

“He went to win the race and he let down and couldn’t pick up as you would have liked.”

Stamping his claims as one to watch when posting two consecutive wins on debut in early 2013, Prince Harada returned that spring for second in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) before impressive performances for fifth and sixth in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) and Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) respectively.

Spending a year in the paddock following a credible 2014 autumn preparation, Prince Harada has clearly overcome a niggling knee issue that forced the break and appears primed for a return to black type company.

The 2015 The Goodwood final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, May 13th.
