Glen Boss has partnered talented gelding Lucky Hussler to standout success over the current racing season and is confident of continuing the trend aboard the gelding in Saturday’s featured Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.

Lucky Hussler has undoubtedly found career-best form to date since transferring to the care of Darren Weir following a disappointing 2014 winter campaign; taking out the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) with ease in October before running a close second in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) most notably through spring.

Returning this time for a maiden victory at the highest level in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) on March 27th, the son of Husson was unlucky to be caught wide and at a slow pace in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) last time out and finished sixth.

Boss is amazingly yet to ride a Group 1 winner in Adelaide despite posting an incredible 81 victories at the highest level, and is confident Lucky Hussler and the 2015 The Goodwood figure as his best chance to date of breaking the hoodoo.

“I actually don’t imagine I’ve had too many Group 1 rides there,” Boss told Racing Victoria.

“I would have ridden in a couple of Adelaide Cups (when it was a Group 1) and a few Derbies, but it’s a blank canvas for me (in terms of wins) over there at the moment.

“He’s got good form going into the race, that’s for certain.

“He’s a good, genuine six or seven-furlong horse; they’re his two pet distances, so the drop back to 1200 metres shouldn’t be a problem.”

Boss was pleased with the five-year-old’s effort in the All Aged Stakes, particularly in considering his misfortune, but is confident the conditions of the 2015 Goodwood Handicap and the confirmed field will play directly into his strengths, including his allocation of barrier 11.

“If he drew a barrier in the All Aged he probably would have won the race,” Boss added.

“He just had horrible luck in that race; we drew the outside, they walked, I was the best part of six-wide and still only got beaten a length-and-a-half.

“I’ve been watching the races over there pretty closely the last couple of weeks and they are definitely getting off the track and swooping.

“There hasn’t been too many horses lead up or win on the fence.

“So given they’ve all been coming down the middle of the track, I’d say it’ll be a good draw for him.” is currently offering the best 2015 The Goodwood odds, for which Lucky Hussler can be taken at a generous $6 quote.
