Dunn to Ride Faatinah in 2016 The Goodwood

May 16th, 2016

Apprentice hoop Dylan Dunn has been booked to make his Group 1 debut in Saturday’s 2016 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville, and is confident classy mare Faatinah is a legitimate chance of success in the feature race.

Faatinah has stamped herself as one to watch in posting three wins and two minors through only seven career starts so far, and undoubtedly produced a career-best effort to date when savaging the line for success in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville a fortnight ago.

Dunn told The Advertiser he is thrilled to have picked up the ride on Faatinah in the 2016 The Goodwood, and credits his time under the guidance of trainers David Hayes & Tom Dabernig as pivotal in his rise to prominence this season.

“It’s a huge opportunity for me,’’ Dunn said.

“I’ve been with David for just over a year now and getting this sort of opportunity can really help me take my riding to the next level,’’ Dunn said.

“Usually your first Group 1 ride might be on an outsider, but to be riding a horse who can genuinely win the race is a big opportunity.

“It’s pretty special for me having started my riding career in Adelaide to have my first Group 1 ride there, it’s going to be great.

“Riding a Group 3 winner there was a big boost. People start to notice you and if I was lucky enough to snag a Group 1 win this weekend it would be pretty special.”

Dylan’s father, prominent jockey Dwayne Dunn has been confirmed to take the ride on the Robert Smerdon-trained Under The Louvre in the 2016 The Goodwood.

“I don’t know how many kids get to ride in Group 1 races against their father,” Dylan said.

“I really enjoy the competitive side of racing against him.

“And I would love to get that Group 1 under my belt. It puts you into a different class and to be considered in the same class as my father would be amazing.’’
